Courtesies

As a private facility, the Shenandoah Club is not open to the general public. Use of the Club’s facilities by a non-member must be sponsored by a member solely responsible for the guest’s actions.

  1. Members or their spouses may entertain non-members eligible for membership only under the following conditions:

    • A person living or having a business within a twenty airline mile radius of City Hall may only be entertained once a month except in private rooms or at parties.

    • Persons other than spouses of members, living or having their business outside of a twenty-airline mile radius of City Hall, may only use the Club’s facilities if in possession of a guest card or accompanied by a member.

    • Guest cards will be issued by the President. Such cards will be issued for a maximum period of two weeks, except that application may be made to the House Committee for one extension of the card for an additional two weeks. Guest cards do not include the privilege of the third floor unless accompanied by a member.

    • Local and out-of-town guests are permitted to use the third floor at lunch only once per month and must be accompanied by a member.

    • Persons under 21 years of age shall not be admitted to the second - floor bar.

  2. DRESS CODE FOR THE CLUBHOUSE: Unless otherwise noted, proper attire throughout the Clubhouse is “Club Casual/Jacket Optional” at all times and includes slacks and collared shirts, turtlenecks, mock turtlenecks, dress shirts with Henley collars, and golf shirts for all males 13 years of age and older. Appropriate equivalent attire is expected of women.

  3. Members or guests shall not reprimand employees — this is a management function. Complaints should be made in writing to the Manager or the House Committee.

  4. Virginia ABC laws prohibit the consumption of beer or alcoholic beverages by anyone under 2l years of age. Members and guests are expected to comply with the law. All alcoholic beverages consumed in the clubhouse will be purchased by The Club and served by the drink.

  5. If in the opinion of the House Committee, the facilities of The Club are sufficient and the service to the other members will not be impaired, a member may sponsor a party to be given at The Club by a person not a member by stating in writing to The Club the member’s desire to do so. In such a case, the sponsoring member, or spouse, shall attend the party and be responsible. Charges for such parties shall be rendered in the name of the sponsoring member, who shall be accountable to The Club for any indebtedness and physical damage in connection therewith.

  6. The dining rooms will be open and will close at the hours posted on The Club’s bulletin boards.

  7. Members and their guests are requested to refrain from using cell phones in all dining areas of the Club.

  8. Smoking is always prohibited on the first and second floors of the club.

  9. Reservations are strongly encouraged for evening dining and Sunday Brunch. Weekday reservations are not necessary for lunch in the Main Dining Room or on the Third Floor. Use of the private dining rooms is by reservations only. Please see rule #11 for the policy regarding the cancellation of reservations made for the Club’s special events.

  10. The Shenandoah Club will have from time-to-time special events to which its members will be invited. However, the clubhouse cannot accommodate each member of the Club and the member’s guests if all members should decide to attend a special event. Accordingly, the Club must take reservations, which are to be taken on a first-come basis. The Club has found that reservations have been canceled at the last minute or members failed to show up for special events. This situation prevents other club members from participating in special events and, therefore, creates a situation that is economically damaging to The Club and unfair to its members. Members will be required to cancel reservations for any special event seven days prior to the event. Failure to do so will result in a charge to the member’s account of 50% of the charge which would have otherwise been made to the member unless The Club can resell the space created by the cancellation. Cancellations must be made by notification to the office of The Club only on regular business days between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. In the event of a member’s failure to appear at a special event without canceling the member’s reservation, the member’s account will be charged the total amount which would have been charged if the member had attended the special event. Special Events are defined as, but not strictly limited to, holiday celebrations such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Mothers’ Day Buffets; Dinner Dances such as New Year’s Eve, Rock ‘n Roll Nights, Beach Parties, Jazz Concerts and Valentine’s Dances; Gourmet Dinners, Wine Tastings and similar events that are likely to attract a full house.

  11. The Shenandoah Club exists to serve its members. Hours of operation are established by the Board of Directors for this purpose. The club’s dining rooms, including the Third Floor, will open and close at the hours posted on the club’s bulletin board. Management may schedule events on the Third Floor to coincide with certain televised sporting events or other events of interest to the membership. Members may reserve rooms on the Third Floor by contacting the office. If food and/or beverage service is desired, a minimum of 48 hours is required to provide staff. When so reserved, the Third Floor shall close by midnight. Rooms on the Third Floor will be open for use by members without food and beverage service during times when the clubhouse is open.

  12. The use of the Club parking lot shall be subject to the following regulations:

    • All-day parking shall be strictly prohibited regardless of the circumstances.

    • Member’s vehicles must have a club parking sticker affixed to the outside rear window on the driver’s side.

    • Guests may not park on the lot during weekday lunch hours.

    • Guests may park on the club’s lot at night and Sunday.

    • Club members and their families may park on the club lot between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, only when using Club facilities (no parking here and going elsewhere).
